TREND: EXOTIC SKINS

This season it's not the size or shape of your bag that counts it's the luxury hide it's made of that screams Spring 2012.  Exotic skins were seen at many designers such as Bottega Veneta, Loewe, Cavalli, Ellie Saab, Gucci, Fendi and Valentino.  Here are the bags on the catwalk.

We don't all have the money nor lack of sanity to throw thousands at a bag so our trusty high street, as always, provides us with a plethora of alternatives.

Topshop's milkshake pink snake bag is perfect for the day as it is HUUUGE, also the pastel colour balances out the edgy skin softening the look, if you want a more fierce approach it also comes in black.

River Island's yellow croc number is very lady like and will suit the prim and proper look which is around this season, also yellow is big at the moment making it perfect for summer.

Mango's lime green croc clutch is a daring move for evening, the colour is great and the size is convenient, as is the chain strap, also available in black, beige and fuchsia.  If you need a smaller day bag zara have a black one with a snake panel which is more understated if you don't want to go all out.

TREND : GLIMMER AND GLEAM

Last season saw sequins and sparkle everywhere, but now it's time for a subtler glow think of a more lunar glow instead of bright stars.  High tech fabrics gave an iridescent glow at Chanel, Christopher Kane and Marc Jacobs whereas a wet-look sheen was issued at Marios Schwab and Giles.  Here are the looks from the catwalk.

Here are some metallic picks from the high street.

Topshop's metallic skater is ideal for this look and could be worn for both day and night, depending on how it was accessorized.  Also available in pink.  Topshop also carry this metallic biker, which again could be worn for day and evening, and offers an edgier look to the trend.

River Island's dip hem maxi skirt has a slight sheen which is what this look is all about, also the dip hem is a big hit for summer.  Also available in gold.  Topshop's metallic racer back vest has an iridescent sheen similar to what was seen at chanel, it would be perfect for day with a leather jacket and skinny jeans.












If you don't want to go all out in a metallic outfit there are plenty of accessories available so that you can take just a hint of the trend.


Topshop have lots and lots and lots of metallic shoes but these two pairs are my favourites.


These pointed shoes are perfect for the trend and also this style of shoe befits the vintage americana trend which is also about.  These sandals are AMAZING for evening and have the perfect Chanel iridescent glow.

Topshop's metallic "binocular bag" is a quirky take on the trend, and is the perfect size for evening and it also has a convenient shoulder strap. If pink is more your thing this asymmetric clutch is perfect and again is perfect for evening.

TREND - AMERICANA VINTAGE

Many designers have shown collections taking elements from this mood Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler and Valentino showed leathers polished to a Cadillac sheen, there were prim and proper plaids at Jil Sander and Rochas and lastly the most desirable motif of the season - Prada's muscle cars.  Here are the looks on the runway.  Top - Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler.  Middle - Valentino, Jil Sander.  Bottom - Rochas, Prada.

On the highstreet

Draw back in fear at the sight of a designer price tag?  Worry not, our faithful high street provides many alternatives allowing you to take on the trend too.

These two leather skirts are from ASOS the left one offers a more lady-like take on the trend in the style of Marc Jacobs and Prada whereas the right one is an edgier interpretation in keeping with Proenza Schouler's modern aesthetic.

These metallic shorts by Topshop unique offer a more youthful, boyish look in keeping with the sporty trend which is also around this season.  River Island's laser cut leather jacket showcases a very ladylike take on leather and is perfect for this trend also the detail is wonderful!

For the prim and proper look think bouclé wool, pretty lace and ladylike lengths, here are some pieces I have found for this style.

Zara's bouclé blazer is a stunning piece and offers a style similar to Chanel and Rochas for a fraction of the price, the beading on the collar is a nice touch and they have many similar jackets in a range of colours.





These two skirts are also from Zara the first shows pretty guipure lace and is also in a pastel shade which is very big this season, the other is in a bouclé fabric and also shows one of these seasons big trends - the peplum.

ASOS' short suit is also in keeping with this trend  
and the neon adds some flare to this look
and again showcases the sporty neons trend.

 ASOS also carry some car print very similar to Prada's and this playsuit is perfect for summer!

For accessories look no further than cat-eye sunglasses, neutral ladylike bags and prim court shoes.

Topshop's doctor's fits this trend,it is well structured and not to garish to draw attention away from your outfit.  They also have these pointed courts which are also an ideal piece and will also inject an element of colour to your outfit.








ASOS' cutaway cat eyes are ideal for the trend, the pastel shade is very in and the brow shape evokes Prada's hot-rod flames.
